Lily’s Cottage is situated in a pretty upper Weardale village with good amenities. This fabulous property has been lovingly furnished, with a log-burning stove recently being installed, giving guests extra comfort. It is ideal for couples, families or small groups.

This beautiful cottage really does feel like a home from home. Step into the living room, which has been tastefully decorated and cosy up in front of the fire. There is a smart TV to keep you entertained when you are ready to relax after making the most of what this amazing area and the spectacular countryside has to offer.

The living room leads off into the kitchen/diner. The modern and light kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to be able to cook meals. Tea, coffee, sugar and basic condiments are supplied. The dining table is in the kitchen, perfect for socialising while cooking a tasty, well-deserved meal. On nicer days you can head out into the garden and make the most of the fresh country air.

Upstairs, the beautifully decorated, master bedroom comfortably sleeps 2 in a double bed and a further 2 guests are accommodated in a twin bedroom. The family bathroom has an enclosed shower cubicle, finished with stylish tiles.

Local Information

The Durham Dales, incorporating Teesdale and Weardale is a peaceful and tranquil landscape of moors and hills, valleys and meandering rivers, dotted with picturesque villages and market towns.
Part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a European and UNESCO Global Geopark, this special place to put down roots or could be the perfect choice for your next holiday of exploration.

Walking and cycling are great ways to explore the Durham Dales, where you’ll find some of the best hiking and biking routes in the country. Enjoy breath-taking views and seek out tasty tearooms and cafes in the welcoming towns and villages along the way, including two official 'Walkers are Welcome' Towns - Middleton in Teesdale and Wolsingham.

Head to Hamsterley Forest and explore 2,000 hectares of woodland or let the chain take the strain on an electric bike journey around this beautiful area. Don’t miss the perfect photo opportunity at High Force – on of England’s most impressive waterfalls.

There’s plenty more to see and do in this area too, from historic castles to award-winning museums and galleries and much more, the Durham Dales is a great place to visit.

When it’s time to refuel, you’ll find great places to eat along the way, from tempting treats in market town tearooms, to hearty countryside meals in traditional country pubs, it’s all on the menu in the Durham Dales. Plus, our two food trails will take your taste buds around the dales and North Pennines.

From the head of the valley at Killhope with its famous lead mining museum down to Stanhope town are a host of pretty villages with village halls with events serving the local communities and churches.

St Johns Chapel has good amenities such as a co-op, two public houses, café, town hall with activities and a gym, doctors’ surgery and an ambulance station. From here you can drive over Harthope to Teesdale and explore the villages there and the larger town of Barnard Castle.

Westgate and Eastgate both have popular pubs serving food and real ales as you drive down the valley towards Stanhope.

Stanhope town has a good array of shops including a coop, petrol, station, butchers, post office, hairdressers, pubs and eateries, The Dales Centre with a selection of craft shops, car park and tourist information. There is a doctor surgery, vets, and a large selection of other shops along the main street. Stanhope offers a bus link to the upper Weardale villages and onwards to Bishop Auckland, Durham, Sunderland, and Newcastle and a rail link which should be re-opening in the near future.
